A sub-krewe is a smaller entity in the Krewe of St. Catherine that has organized under a theme to roll in a cohesive group during the parade. A sub-krewe can include as many or as few people as desired, with a minimum of four people per sub-krewe. Some sub-krewes have contraptions, sound, costumes, signage, and, yet, others do not. This is up to the discretion of the sub-krewe. However, there will be judges along the parade route rating best costumes, performance, and overall sub-krewe.
Sub-krewes self-establish their own rules and guidelines (costume colors/basics, values, throw themes, etc). Some krewes are kid friendly, some have open membership, and some ask for additional krewe dues to cover expenses for shared resources. If you need help with this, let us know! We are happy to offer suggestions or point you in the direction of resources.
If you have an idea for a sub-krewe /group theme, we welcome your idea whole heartedly. Forming your own sub-krewe is easy. It really comes down to a solid concept that people want to be a part of and a good name.
We ask that sub-krewe names not be solely a business name, but they may incorporate a business name if desired (ex: Choo Choo Krewe, sponsored by Amtrak).
We are excited to announce that our official after party will be at Fat Cat (309 McLeod St) featuring Southern Komfort Brass Band. Southern Komfort is an award winning 9 piece New Orleans-style street jazz brass band with a unique Mississippi twist. This band will end the night right and be the perfect kick off to the Hattiesburg Mardi Gras season!
Access to the official after party is included in regular dues. If you are in a sub-krewe that is sponsored you must still purchase tickets.
